2016 BIEZE VINEYARD CHARDONNAY
Stone fruit, fleshy golden apple and Bosc pear entwine with marzipan and cinnamon on the nose. Subtle aromas of bees wax and honey layer intricately with citrus peel and a subtle flinty component. Creamy on entry, a savory mid-palate is highlighted by notable acidity and tangy, barrel-driven flavors. The wine finishes with a graceful minerality, and bright notes of citrus peel.
September 12 & 18
8 months on the lees
Bieze Vineyard is located on the east side of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and neighbors Evening Land’s acclaimed Seven Springs Vineyard. Well-draining Jory soil and a temperate climate are hallmarks of this site, producing fruit with focus and purity.
The record-breaking 2016 vintage was Oregon’s earliest from bud break, throughout the growing season and into harvest. Clusters were hand-picked at optimum maturity in the cool, early morning hours on September 12th and 16th.A 15% reduction in yield as well as the lack of excessive temperatures resulted in beautifully ripe, dense wines with moderate alcohol and bright acidity from this classic Oregon vintage.
Gently whole-cluster pressed and racked clear, this Chardonnay was fermented at low temperatures for aromatic preservation and aged in varied vessels: 40% concrete tank to highlight acidity, 35% oak barrel (10% new, 5% Acacia) with targeted batonnage for enhanced texture, and 25% stainless steel barrels to preserve freshness and crisp acidity. Aged on the lees for 8 months.
