2018 Tradition Pinot Noir
Nestled in the Van Duzer Corridor, our vineyard is directly impacted by oceanic influences, keeping us warmer during a cold growing season and cooler during warmer vintages compared to the rest of the Willamette Valley. Tradition is always a blend of whole cluster and destemmed fruit. In 2018 50% of the clusters were destemmed, but it changes from year to year. In 2018 the quality of the stems was more green and we decided to use a smaller portion. The wine was fermented in two individual one ton lots. Post fermentation the wine was aged for 17 months in 30% new French Oak. The nose of Tradition is heavily influenced by the whole cluster fermentation. The wine is savory in characteristic, there is a delicate fruit aroma of pomegranate and cherry. However, the wine is defined by notes of clove and resin from the whole cluster, along with forest floor and earthy aromas. The mouthfeel has a gentle tannin presence, and the wine is not overly acidic.
